michelleorick Posted May 15, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 15, 2004 I saw a post (on the long wine thread a few pages down) that states a recent cruiser ordered the wine package when she got on board (althought I am sure this limits an already limited wine list). Others have posted RCCI no longer offers this. Any recent cruisers know, specifically on the Grandeur? Also, do the bars serve daily drink specials like they do on Celebrity ("sail away specials")? Just wondering- of course we will buy wine and drinks on the ship anyway! MO
MJL Posted May 15, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 15, 2004 There was not a wine package or adult beverage card available on our March/April Grandeur sailing. We were told that they were discontinued. At dinner they had a value-priced selection of wines at $20 - $25. But most of the time we ended up in the $25 to $35 range. The daily drink specials were still a good value at about $3.25 - $3.50 plus tip.
RLapple Posted May 16, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 16, 2004 We bought a wine package, on the Legend, this month. Any wine, on the package list, could be ordered. The list was somewhat limited; but there was enough variety to satisfy. Brought the average price down to less than $20 per bottle.
d2man Posted May 16, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 16, 2004 We were on Navigator a few weeks ago, and went to check it out and the wine shop staff said that the wine package was not available that week due to a limited shipment of wine that week. (sounds fishy, but either way, it was not available.)
cruisers4life Posted May 17, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 17, 2004 Was on the May 2nd Mariner cruise. They had two wine packages. Four bottles for around $90 and seven bottles for around $140. You didn't have much to choose from but we liked the ones that we had.
stretch Posted May 17, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 17, 2004 On the 11 day Brilliance cruise in March, they offered several different packages. Most wines on the list would run around $10 - $15 retail. There was a 7-bottle Gold Package, 7-bottle Platinum Package (better selection and better wines, we got for $209 including tip), then they also had 10 and 11 bottle packages from the same Gold or Platinum wine lists. The Gold list had fewer and cheaper wines, and on both packages some of the better wines were actually split bottles (1/2 bottles). Take your own opener or you may have to wait till your main course to get it opened by the asst. waiter. Stretch Barcrawlers on ice, where will we turn up next? michelleorick Posted May 18, 2004 Author #8 Share Posted May 18, 2004 Thanks to all of you for the info! This is exactly what I was wondering because the RCCL site does not list it anymore. Do you go to guest relations when you board to discuss it? I hope they have one offered on the Grandeur. On the Celebrity cruise we went on earlier this year they did not offer one and we ordered a bottle every night. We thought about taking a couple of special bottles onboard but in the end we did not (ran out of packing space for flying requirements). We are driving to port this time- maybe will carry on a couple of bottles. The package may be the way to go if it is offered. Happy cruising- MO
