mrssoexcited Posted October 3, 2009 #1 Share Posted October 3, 2009 My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our guided tour and lunch on the Pacific Dawn today. NRMA organised it and there were only 60 of us lucky people braving the cold and rainy weather at Darling Harbour this morning. After the previous cruise' passengers had disembarked, we were taken on board and shown all over the ship. We got to see every grade of cabin including the suites - goodness, the bathroom in the biggest suite was as big as mine at home! It is a very nice ship and we took lots of photos for a friend who is travelling Tuesday after next. The lunch was lovely in the Palm Dining Room. It was a set menu with mushroom & bacon soup for starters, either Salmon or Steak for main, and a chocolate trio drizzled with hot chocolate sauce for dessert. Red or White wine throughout the meal, and coffee to finish. Then they threw us off! We tried very hard to escape and be stowaways, but curses, they caught us!!! In typical cruising fashion, we met and chatted with some lovely people. All in all, a very entertaining way to spend a cold rainy Saturday.:D

Gold Coast Cruisers Posted October 3, 2009 #4 Share Posted October 3, 2009 I would love to see some of your photos, especially of the Mini Suites on Pacific Dawn. I've never seen them and we've booked one next year. We've not cruised on Pacific Dawn before. I have started a thread for everyone to put pictures up of cabins from various cruise ships. mrssoexcited Posted October 4, 2009 Author #7 Share Posted October 4, 2009 I found a link on this site when someone mentioned it. This one was through NRMA - the lady we met yesterday from NRMA says if you go on their website, and go to travel, there is a whole section for cruising. If they are able to get another lunch in Brisbane, I'm sure that it would be mentioned there. But it seemed it was a huge favour that P & O allowed them to do this lunch. The last passengers had just left, all the cleaning staff were in full-on mode and we trounced through the rooms and they had to clean again behind us. Then for the lunch, the staff that should have had some time onshore with friends, stayed behind to look after us. From the way the organisers were talking, its a huge inconvenience for P & O so it doesnt happen very often. But when it does, we are all very grateful. :D
staceymrow Posted October 4, 2009 #8 Share Posted October 4, 2009 How do u go about doing the lunch and tour in Brisbane? Thank's! Hi there, Last time I had the lunch/ tour on Pacific Sun in Brisbane. It was organised by a cruise specialist TA in Brisbane. They emailed me with the invite and it was first in best dressed and cost about $50pp ? from memory. The next lunch/ tour on Pacific Dawn in January isnt fully confirmed as yet, but I have registered my interest and is being organised by another cruise club. shortstuffy Posted October 4, 2009 #9 Share Posted October 4, 2009 Maybe NRMA's counterpart here in Qld, the RACQ, will host a luncheon when Pacific Dawn comes to homeport in Brisbane. I know RACQ sells a lot of P&O cruises through their travel department and they always seem to be promoting special offers. We'll have to keep an eye on their website to see if a similar offer is made. Does anyone know if RACQ has a special "travel/cruise club" or similar that would get advance e-mail notification of such a luncheon?
