Rock Slide at Monseratt?

I have read that there has been a rock slide at Monserrat and the only way to get to the Monastery is by cable car. Is this true? We will be in Barcelona prior to sailing on the Summit. We plan to go to Monserrat on Nov. 27.

Thank you,

Arlene

Arlene,

We just returned home from our cruise on the Gem. Visited Monserrat last Sunday. We took the train from Espanya Metro to Monserrat. Got off the train and took the cable car to/from the monastery. Others boarded another train to the monastery. Saw trains coming on and off the top as we approached the monastery. Tons of tour buses in parking lot. Didnt notice signs or warnings of rock slides in the area. The views from top vantage points are spectacular - we really enjoyed our visit.

Did you go on your own or did you take a tour? If on your own did you take from were did you leave? If you took a tour what company was it? What day of the week did you go?

We did this trip on our own. Disembarked the Gem on Sunday, checked in at hotel, took taxi from hotel to Espanya Station, on the 10:30AM train from Barcelona to Montserrat. It's a really easy trip to do on your own. Instructions for train or coach ride to Montserrat is available here. Have fun.

We went last week on the morning of embarkation. We went through a RCI agent in our hotel. Good price, good tour, except it was extremely crowded and a large bus had problems getting up the mountain with the traffic. We ended up having to walk up the hill or we would have sat there forever. Another couple used Barcelona Day Tours and even their small transport was stuck in the traffic. The guide ended up taking them to the cable car and that worked well for them.
