PrincessGirl Posted October 16, 2009 #1 Share Posted October 16, 2009 Has the area that the Puffing Billy travels through recovered from the fires? For those traveling to Melbourne soon, would this be a good excursion? Thank you for any advice.

Australian family Posted October 16, 2009 #3 Share Posted October 16, 2009 I wouldn't let the fires put you off, the bush should be coming back, it grows very quickly after fires. Puffing Billy is a great train trip, we did it 11 years ago, and it now goes further. The Dandenongs are just beautiful. Enjoy the trip! Those who are new to Australia may not know that fire is part of the natural life cycle of the Australian bush; some of the plants depend on fire to start the reproduction cycle. In many ways the bush itself quite resilient to fire, and it's only these new-fangled humans that aren't.
sus susy Posted October 17, 2009 #5 Share Posted October 17, 2009 Hi, you will be fine travelling on the Puffing Billy, as the areas that it travels through were no touched by the recent fires. If you get the opportunity to do the trip, do so, as it is a great train ride, through the hills and bush, in open carriages. You will enjoy it.
