pom Posted December 9, 2009 #81 Share Posted December 9, 2009 When you think of cruising, do you think of opera? Starting today, you might! Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, owner of luxury ship Europa, will host a first-of-its-kind "American Idol"-style classical music competition onboard its October 25 cruise. The competition, called Stella Maris (Latin for "Stars of the High Seas"), is being held in conjunction with some of the world's most prestigious opera houses and will feature performances by eight contestants. And you don't have to be onboard to enjoy and participate! Cruise Critic has teamed up with Hapag-Lloyd Cruises to bring the competition shoreside. You will be able to watch video footage of each performance on our special contest page and vote for your favorite up-and-coming opera star right here on this forum. But first, to get into the classical music spirit, we're inviting you to enter to win classical music prizes, including backstage opera house tours, tickets to concert performances and DVD's. These drawings are open to legal residents of the U.S., U.K. and Canada (except for Quebec province -- read the full rules and regulations here). THE DRAWINGS Drawing 1: One (1) winner will receive one (1) pair of tickets to the Canadian Opera Company's Flying Dutchman performance on May 17, 2010. Drawing 2: One (1) winner will receive one (1) pair of tickets to the Metropolitan Opera House's Barber of Seville performance on February 26, 2010. Drawing 3: Three (3) winners will each receive one (1) stationery kit/DVD prize pack from the Metropolitan, New York. Drawing 4: Four (4) winners will each receive one (1) DVD from Opernhaus, Zurich. Drawing 5: Five (5) winners will each receive one (1) DVD from the Royal Opera House, London. Drawing 6: Five (5) winners will each receive a pair of two (2) backstage tours of the Royal Opera House, London. HOW TO ENTER Post your member name and the drawings you'd like to enter below. You can enter just one, or all six -- it's that simple! (Winners will be selected at random on or about November 9, starting with Drawing 1, and become ineligible for all subsequent drawings.) Good luck! And be sure to mark your calendars so you don't miss out on the Stella Maris competition onboard Europa and Cruise Critic's Members Choice Award voting! We'll offer video footage of each performance as soon as it's transmitted from the ship. Pom 1,2,3,4,5,6,
