GRU advice

We are flying into Sao Paulo (GRU) for a cruise out of Santos in January. We have two options - Delta from JFK arriving at 8:55 AM or Continental from EWR arriving at 10:45 AM. I prefer Continental, but there are several more flights arriving in the later time slot than the earlier one, and from what I've read customs/immigration at GRU can be quite difficult when several planes arrive around the same time. Anyone with any experience with GRU I would love your advice. I'll be arriving on a Sunday.
