Opals Rough

We are going on a cruise Dec Auckland to Sydney.From what I have read

the best place to buy Opals is Sydney(not Melbourne I guess) although we will be stopping there.What I really would like is rough boulder opal.I am a lapidary and Silversmith but finished stones would be good also as I know they are a little difficult to work with.I am also not opposed to doublets and triplets to make up for friends.Any input would be appreciated.

I bet a Sydneysider told you the best place to get opals is Sydney! :D They are also available in Melbourne and indeed most other major cities although I'm not sure about wholesale or 'trade only' outlets if that is where you are hoping to source them. Make Google your friend?
