Returning to Ship On Own From Nice?

I'm signed up for a Nice/Monaco "on your own" tour tomorrow, and am now (based on my 11th hour research) considering skipping Monaco, spending the whole day in Nice and telling the tour operator that I'll make my own way back to the ship. Is it an easy trip back by public transportation?

Assuming Cannes is your ship port of call - It is quite easy to use public transportation. We took bus #200 to Nice (1EUR - ~1hr 20mins) and train back Cannes (6EUR - 40mins). There is a lightrail between "Vieux Nice" (Old town area) to train station (Gare - SNCF) - costs 1EUR.

It is ~25-30mins leisure walk from Cannes train station to back to port, passing through some nice shopping areas.
