Norwegian Star 10006 versus 9006

Can anyone tell me the difference between 10006 and 9006 on the Norwegian Star? (Also 10506 and 9506). It seems like the AA Owner's Suites on Deck 10 have a smaller balcony and more space in the cabin. Also, the side balcony on deck 10 is different.

Are there any drawbacks to these cabins, such as having to keep the lights off at night, too windy on front balcony, etc.

Also, is this a good location for when we sail through the glacier? Any info you can give me will be appreciated.

We just did the Panama Canal on the Star, cabin 10502, front, under the bridge. These would be the best cabins for going thru the Canal or cruising thru the glaciers, or thru the Inside passage to Alaska. Have been to Alaska twice, on about 7-8 cruises, about 5 with NCL.

The deck is huge, about 15' by 15', so its great to invite folks to view the glaciers. Two big cushioned lounge chairs and a small table.

There is a note to close the front blinds at nite, so light does not reflect up into the Bridge. That was not a problem, as there is nothing to see out there on the deck at nite.

The wind does whistle thru the door, and there is an outer big metal door one can close. Some nites we closed this door as well, as it was noisy at nite with the wind blowing thru.

One thing to be aware of, if the hallway cabin door is open, and the deck door open, there can be a very strong wind blowing through. And the ceiling tiles bob around, not a big problem.

The cabin is very quiet, other then that.

There is a small dining room table with 4 chairs, small sofa, plenty of storage space, 2 safes, flat screen tv that turns on a romote, you get the CD library, a book with about 200 cds you get from the butler.

And the Suite perks are nice, breakfast and lunch at Cagneys, VIP greeting parties with the captain and crew, etc. Between 3-4PM a plate of goodies would arrive.

There is not much protection from the sun on the deck. While going thru the canal, my wife asked our butler for an umbrella for some sun protection, and 5 minutes later he arrived with one. Our butler was Lucky, we did not have many request's for him, but when we did, he was always prompt and courteous.

While under way, at time is is cool out, or at nite. We did have a few short rough seas, there was some rocking, but we enjoy the movements. The only thing we could not do, compared to being in balconys, was to leave the door open a crack to hear the ocean movement at nite. It does not have a sliding door like the balconys, but a regular, big metal door.

We peeked in to the cabin next door to us, AA 10506. It is a beautiful cabin, similar deck in the front, with a side deck, lots bigger in square footage, and lots more expensive then the AC, we would have loved to have that cabin, maybe another cruise.

Those are the major points I can think of, for Alaska, to be in the front on deck 9 or 10 would be great choices. Good luck. :)

Howdy again,

Heres somthing to consider. When we initially booked our cruise, we booked a balcony, and got upgraded to a mini-suite.

Months leading up to our Panama Cruise, I would check the pricing for the suites, and as it got closer to the cruise, the prices were lowered on the suites. About a month before the cruise, we upgraded to the suite, cabin 10502. Then about 2-3 weeks before the cruise, all the unbooked suites disappeared. Supposedly the upsells/upgrade occurred, moving folks up into the suites.

But these fore cabin in the front seem to be the last to sell out. So keep an eye on the inventory and prices, to see if it becomes worth it to upgrade.

The perks are really nice, they do a good job of treating you like a VIP, would be hard not to want those pleasures on our next cruise.

Hope this helps. Good luck. :)
