Travelling from Port Said

We were on the Nov 3 Princess Cruise to the Holy Land. We used Ramses Tours from Port Said to Cairo for the Pyramids and in Alexandria the next day for the city. We were extremely pleased. For Cairo, they were very conscientious to get us back to the ship with time to spare, and we saw the Cairo Museum, spent about 1 1/2 hours there; the Pyramids, Sphinx, and a short stop to a very nice shop for shopping.

We had been in Alexandria for 2 days before, but Ramses showed us different things, and from a different perspective; so we were very pleased to see so much of that city. Definitely recommend Ramses.

On Saturday, October 22, 2011 we arrived aboard the Norwegian Jade at Port Said, Egypt to look for our tour guide. To our surprise we spotted a man holding a sign with our name on it. He introduced himself as, Nash and we started walking towards his vehicle. He received a telephone call and then told us about another couple wishing to join our tour. We hesitatingly agreed, after we reached Nash’s vehicle he went back to the departure area to retrieve them. They seemed like a nice couple, but little did we know we never should have allowed them to join us. They were rude, belligerent toward the vendors at the pyramids and discourteous toward others during our adventures.

Nash is very knowledgeable and informative. He provided information and history when asked a question and was very polite and personable. After driving through Cairo and into Giza he pointed out the Pyramids at Giza and began to provide details. When we arrived at the Pyramids, Nash told us about the vendors and how they might be aggressive. He advised us to not buy anything from them and to just say “No, thank you.” Nash provided a wealth of information about the Pyramids and their history.

We then journeyed to Sakkara and visited the step pyramid. As we were walking back to the vehicle, Nash informed us about a reduction in our cost from $120 each to $100 each. This was a welcome surprise.

Our visit to the Oriental-Perfumes was very interesting and informative. We then visited Sondos Papyrus where the demonstration of the making of papyrus was great. We found many exquisite items. We only wish we had more time to visit other historic sites.

Nash was very hospitable and extremely knowledgeable. Our visit to Egypt was fantastically informative and interesting. Nash was a great guide and very understanding as to my wife’s need to walk slowly and cautiously. We felt at ease with Nash, even though we were somewhat apprehensive about visiting Egypt as we are Jewish.

I have already recommended Ramses Tours and Nash for anyone planning to visit Egypt. Thank you for a very memorable visit and a great guide.

There were 4 of us traveling together from Texas and toured with Ramses.

Wonderful tours! Our guide Asmaa Mouse was a wealth of knowledge and our driver Muhammad was the best. Our expectations were exceeded as we saw more than we thought we would. We did the Alexandria and the Cairo tours and were delighted with both. Being able to spend more time where we wanted and less time where we wanted was one of the best things with this private tour.

Am planning on a cruise that stops in Port Said. I understand that it is at least a 2 hour bus ride from the port to Cairo. Is this true? any toilet stops?

Although this thread says Port Said I was asked to post my comments here but we docked at Alexandria. The trip to Cairo from Alexandria is about 3 hours and we asked to stop one time and they immediately knew how many minutes to the next place to stop and we stopped.

I'm sure they will do their best to accommodate your needs.

Everyone that has used Ramses Tours in Egypt, please let us know if you enjoyed your tour. We want to take a tour with them in Oct. 2012 with the NCL Jade from Port Said Egypt. Is info@ramsestours.com the right and best way to contact. They are highly recommended on Trip Advisor.

Thank you,

Ed & Mona Hartnett

After a lot of research , I used David Wexler in Israel and Misr Travels in Egypt. Stayed off the ship both times - Jerusalem at the Dan Panorama and Meena Oberoi in Giza.

David built an itinerary around our interests - more historical than religious. He is an Israeli Jew and had an Israeli Arab driver so we had a great ongoing theological, political discussion over the two days. (Haifa - North Galilee- Jerusalem - Dead Sea - Ashdod)

In Egypt we were picked up from Port Said and covered the Pyramids in Giza, Sakkara , Cairo museum on day 1 and Alexandria on Day 2.

Amazing experience as so much history to digest. You all will enjoy this cruise for sure.

We were part of a 12 person tour with our guide George and driver Mohamed. They picked us up at the pier in Port Saidand we were promptly on our way. Everything about the tour was superbly organized. Our guide sorted the order of our stops to ensure we avoided traffic, larger tour buses, etc. Our lunch stops were in great places with great food. The hotel (Mena House Oberoi) was an amazing beautiful place. Overall, our overnight in Cairo was the highlight of our cruise and we owe it all to our tour guide and driver. We were very well taken care of and always knew what to expect before every stop. George was incredibly knowledgeable and Mohamed was an amazing driver on the crazy streets of Cairo. We would highly recommend Egypt shore Excursions!

Thanks for sharing your comments

we recently booked 2 private days tours with Ramses, for our party of 3 people.

in November we are going to make a cruise from Athens, through the Suez Canal down to Dubai.

we did want to go privatly from Aqaba to Petra and from Safaga to Luxor.

it was possible to book this at the cruise company, but it would cost $ 1259,00 and $ 1995,00.

On the internet, we found the same product with Ramses Day tours for the prices of $825,00 and $525,00. Our email contact with Ramses, Mr. Eslam AboGazia, was extremely friendly and helpfull and we emailed about 4 times to and back to each other. the tour could be personalised too.

we are looking very much forward, and when we are back home, we are going to review if our expertations have been come out

Just booked our full day shore excursion with Ramses. I read the reviews of the tour companies on Trip Advisor and Cruise Critic, and decided on Ramses. They are fast in responding and answered our questions. Their booking process is so easy and efficient. It makes us even more excited about seeing the sites. Here is our tour:

One day tour to Cairo, Option 1

Your private tour guide and tour manager will be waiting inside the port with a sign showing your name, Travel to Cairo in a comfortable air conditioned vehicle that meets UK/USA travel standards during the ride to Cairo our guide will give you some information about history, culture and modern until you reach the great pyramids one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world. You will be glad you took the day to travel from Alexandria as you feast your eyes on the Great Pyramid of Cheops, the middle pyramids of Chephren and the little one of Mykerinos as well as the mysterious Sphinx: the Father of Terror for the ancient pharaohs. This tour includes a visit to the valley temple facing the great sphinx

Stop for lunch

Then our guide will take you to the Museum of Egyptian antiquities that include King Tutankhamen. There is always time to take a panoramic photo stop in Cairo and the river Nile and Tahir Square, then you can have an optional shopping tour at the traditional bazaars where you can purchase a range of traditional souvenirs such as perfume oils, papyrus, hieroglyphics in a variety of materials etc.

Finally, you will be escorted back to port, where you will have the opportunity to take photos of the famous library of Alexandria and the lighthouse before being taken, by your guide, back to your cruise ship 2 hours before your departure.

We used Ramses tours also, in october 2012 and they were great. Really reliable and 50% of the cruise price. They will go wherever you want to go and their guide was the best we have ever had. We have done a nile cruise and were told all sorts of rubbish by that guide. My daughter is an egyptologist so we knew what they said was wrong, but the Ramses tours man was very knowledgable and he was happy to chat about Egypts current problems etc which I found to be very enlightening. I recommend this course of action and would not hesitate to use them again.

Enjoy yourself.

This coming July our cruise will stop there for a day. I am trying to find sightseeing tours of this area-Port Said. All I can find are tours to Cairo. Two years ago, we visited the pyramids of Giza in Cairo. We do not want to return there on this trip.

Any suggestions ?

Thank you for your help

We thought like you have at first, but elected to go back to Cairo this past Oct. 2012 (second time) and wanted to see Sakara and the step pyramid, worth the trip. I don't know how much there is to see in Port Said other than the Suez Canal, but Rames Tours and fill you in. If you go to Cairo again, please have lunch at the Mena House Hotel, you won't regret the view and the food is very good too.
