Cabin off back of ship

Recommended Posts

we booked a balcony guarantee and was just assigned 4239 off the back of the Atlantica, any have any pro or con, never been in the aft cabins

We just booked an aft cabin on the Atlantica for 4/3/10.

This is our first cruise, so I don't know what the cabin will be like, I just like the idea of having the extended balcony.

Please let me know how your location turns out!

we just returned today and want to say that it was one of the best cabins we every had. it was very spaciou and loved the balcony, it seemed a little bigger than the other ones.

really the walk was not bad, as this ship has 3 sets of elevators, one near the back, and let me say the elevators were the fastest i have ever seen on a ship.

had a great cruise, hope yours is good.

We are also in an aft for April 3 sailing. We were lucky enough to get corner wrap arounds. Have never done an aft so looking forward to all of the good things I have heard. Just wondering how long a hike it will be to get to elevators. We are on deck 5 PS suite. Anyone stayed in these cabins?

Hi, I saw your posts over on the roll call thread.

We are going to be neighbors for a week! We are also in an aft cabin on Deck 5 on the April 3 sailing. Our cabin is one of the 4 between the wrap around cabins.

I am so pleased to hear that it is a good location!

ANGWSIN- welcome neighbor. We are traveling with 2 other couples one of which has the other corner aft. I see you are from NC. We are from Virginia so we are already neighbors. We are counting the days until we get on the plane to head south. Can't come fast enough since we had a real live snow storm yesterday. We had about 9 inches so needless to say the city is at a stand still. Very icy roads and still very cold. Until temp rises, I am afraid we will slip and slide for awhile. See you in about 62 days.

Glad to read all the positive remarks about aft cabins. We have cruised about 25 times and this will be our first suite aft on Atlantica. We're from FL so not crazed to have a big balcony but love space in the cabin and of course love the pampering you get in a suite. Have always booked close to the elevators midship so I can shoot right down to the casino! LOL May save money having to "travel" to the casino!

Everyone have a blast on your upcoming cruise.

Not trying to put a damper on your cruise, but we just got back Sunday night from our cruise on the Atlantica. It was a great cruise, EXCEPT for the cabin....#5266 Panarama Suite on deck 5 aft. with wrap around deck. It is a lot smaller than we figured it would be, since it cost more than the regular suite. The regular suite is larger and more squared up than the PS. we had a lot of minor maintenance problems - no air conditioning; safe was locked for the first day until about 7PM; closet door was broken; tub stopper was broken - have to take it out for a shower; curtains will not close - seem to be of a material that are crushed or something. Hope this does not discourage you, but I think we got most of the items taken care of, except for the curtains and air conditioner. Have a great cruise.

SZDIVER- just read your posting and am a bit concerned as this is the cabon we have in April. I have to have air so I sure hope it is fixed by then. Also when you say the cabin was smaller than you expected can you give me more info on this. Also, was the balcony sunny all the time or was there some shade? How about distance to elevators? I agree that you would think the cabin would be better as it is more $ than a suite. Any other details you can share would be great. Did you do eastern or western? We will be doing western .

Those have always been our favorite cabins. Absolutely love them. Enjoy!!!

We did have sun on the deck for some of the day, but Dave enjoyed sitting in the corner a lot.

The room is about 271 sq ft. and the suite, which is less money, was 400 sq ft. The PS is configured almost like a triangle, with a sleeper sofa in the back facing the 4 drawers with the safe. These are the only drawers that you can use for clothes, as the desk has very small drawers. The bedstands also have very small drawers. The closet has space for clothes, but it did not have enough for my dresses and Dave's pants & shirts also. The shelves were my "drawers" for the week. I don't mean to depress you about the cabin. There are some good things with it also. The butler was almost non-existent, but the room attendant was very good at her job. Just stay on top of them with any maintenance problems and eventually, they will fix them. The A/C should be ok by the time you sail, but know that the +3 is high and -3 is low. not your regular dials. Any other questions, I will try to answer them honestly.

szdiver- I have read your review and am now thinking maybe we should switch to a suite or grand suite. I hope all repairs have been made before we sail. You said there was alot of noise in the back- such as???? Was it constant or just at certain times? How did people dress on formal nights- men in suits and ties or more casual as alot of are doing these days due to luggage restrictions on airlines. Us gals can get away with sundresses and make them dressier but guys are a different story. It sounds like the closet was quite small as well- again this makes me a bit worried about where we will put everything. Again, any help you can give will be great.

Sunlover: Dave just wore a sports jacket and pants. We are on the same cruise next year and have booked a grand suite in the middle because of all the problems in the back. If the price is right, try one of the wellness grand suits - 488 sq ft and you get the wellness restaurant for free every time. This is a BIGGIE! We ate lunch there once and it was the best food and service on the ship. We paid $30 pp and enjoyed it very much. Hardly anyone eats there at lunch.

The noise was mostly in the mornings when they were docking. We tendered into both Key West and Grand Cayman and docked in Roatan and Cozumel.

sunlover: sure hope I did not put you off by my review and comments. Everyone has their own ideas of what is good or bad and most people want to decide for themselves. I hope you have a great time and come back and let me know.
