Harrison's Cave Tour in Barbados

We're planning on going to Harrison's Cave on our own, without the ship's tour. Has anyone done it and can they tell me how much a taxi ride to the cave is and how close to Pelican Village it is? We'd like to go there too. I spoke to someone at the Cave and they told me it's a 1/2 drive from the pier and the taxi could run$30-40. Can someone please advise?
