johndon Posted February 3, 2010 #26 Share Posted February 3, 2010 We did the Melbourne New Zealand cruise on Dawn Princess in December. The "secret doors" are on decks 9, 10 & 11 forward on both sides of the ship at the end of the long corridors. When the weather is adverse signs are placed on the inner doors warning of high winds outside as the doors lead to the small decks that go from side to side on the front of the ship. It is a good vantage point as these three decks are forward of the bridge very close to the bow. The access to these decks is not generally known or advertised but no restrictions are imposed to access at any time. It was an excellent viewing area while sailing in the Fiordland National Park. morgiemoo Posted February 4, 2010 #27 Share Posted February 4, 2010 When we were on the Emerald this past November, our suite was next to this "Magic Door" Not one person went out on this secret deck except my family. It was the worst spot on the ship it was so windy and we couldn't even stay out their for 5 minutes. With that being said for all the money that we spent we didn't enjoy our balcony either. But on the bright side we had a great view of the bridge.
travellover3 Posted February 4, 2010 #28 Share Posted February 4, 2010 On the Coral twice. Used the secret door at night on the Dolphin and Caribe decks to relax under the stars while cleaning my clothes in the Laundromat. For the Panama Canal, it was a fabulous view from there coming toward the Bridge of the Americas. Bring a thermos with a hot drink...what a view! Get there early (maybe 5 am?).
