Villages outside of Dubrovnick Town

Recommended Posts

We have been to Dubrovnick before and were hoping to visit some of the villages outside the city this time. Does anyone have any recommendations on where to visit or on tour guides that you recommend? One of the tour guides we saw mentioned was Tom Tours. Does anyone have any experience with them? We have about five hours for the tour.

Your question could be answered better if you give a date of arrival in Dubrovnik. Early or late in the season and a trip to some of the villages outside of town can be done easily in a short period of time. However arriving in June, July, August or September may not be done easily with the amount of traffic.

Be very careful in looking for private tour guides. Having a license does not necessarily give you a good tour. You should look for some type of posting of cruisers who have experienced a good tour at a fair value.

We will be on the cruise in late July/early August. We will be in Dubrovnik for approx. 7 hours. Based on that, are there any recommendations on places to see? Thanks for your help in advance.

July and August is high season, not only for cruisers but also land guests. You should look into taking the ship tour only to the wine country down on the Peljesac peninsula. Lovely red wines and some wonderful tasting places. Do not try to do this trip on your own because of the traffic flow. Only the ships tour will get you back to the ship on time!

Another very good choice would be to go down to the old town and take the ferry boat down to Cavtat. An lovely small town 45 minutes down the coast and one would not have to travel on the coast road.

You could also spend the day on the island of Lokrum, swimming and just relaxing. A short 15 minute ferry ride from the old town.

There are the Elefiti island, one can also take a ferry down to visit these lovely islands.

If you were arriving on a Sunday, there is the local dance group down in Clipi.

Again I strongly suggest one visit the Dubrovnik tourist bureau website. All these suggestions are listed in detail.

While you may be on your second visit, I am willing to bet that you missed the Rupe Museum in the old town. This is a lovely place one should not miss, my very favorite.
