We just spent an absolutely amazing day on a excursion in puerto vallerta. We hired a tour guide by the name of Reinhard Dressler. he met us at the cruise terminal and spent the entire day with our group 14. we rode the local buses to get around and that just added to the adventure of the day. he took us to Chicos Paradise up in mountians above the fishing village of Boca de Tomatlan. he led us into the river where we rode bown a natural waterslide and than were dumped out over the water fall and into the pool below! amazing! after this we caught the bus back down to boca where he arranged for a panga boat to take us out to Colomitos beach and cove for snorkeling. beautiful spot to snorkel but unfornunately we met up with some jelly fish so we cut the snorkeling short. next we hopped out of the boat on Colomitos beach and followed Reinhard on an amazing hike down the coast. he led us to one beautiful, secluded beach after another. the scenery was breath taking and we were the only people on the trail the entire day. reinhard led us to a cliff where we dove off into the ocean and then swam to a little beach to do it again!. as we hiked he shared his vast knowledge of the area (he is an oceanographer). he cracked open coconuts for us to drink and eat. he even climbed a coconut tree for our intertainment. we eventually reached las Animas beach were our panga was waiting to take us back to Boca. from there we caught the bus back to PV. Once back in town our guide stayed with us as we ended our day shopping and walking along the beautiful Malecon. when we were ready to return to the ship he rode the bus back with us and walked us right to the gate. at the end of the day we all felt like we had spent the day with a friend not a tour guide. all 14 people in our group agree this day was the highllight of the entire cruise. IT WAS AMAZING!

your day sounded fantastic! did you book this with him in advance? how much was this? thanks.

we just returned from mex riv cruise on carnival splendor. had an amazing time in all 3 ports (pv, maz. cabo) but pv topped them all thanks to our tour guide. his name is reinhard dressler. i found him through my connections on tripadvisor. we were a group of 14 (6 adults-8 kids). he met us outside the cruise dock in pv and we all hopped onn the local bus system. this was part of the adventure! he led us on a quick tour of the city (boardwalk, cathederal) and then we hopped another bus out of town to chicos paradise. reinhard led us into the river there as we rode down some natural waterslide and over a waterfall! what a thrill! next we headed down to a little fishing village (boca) and caught a panga to colomitos beach/cove for some snorkleing. met up with some jellyfish so that did not last long. next we hopped off the panga at colomitos beach and we led on an amazing hike down the coast from one beautiful little beach to another. we stopped along the way to listen to reinhards amazing knowledge of the area. we even did some cliff diving into the ocean! WOW! he climbed a coconut tree for us and made us fell like we were on a real adventure. we never passes anothe person the entire hike. we eventually arrived at los animas beach were our panga was waiting to take us back to boca. from there we caught the bus back to town. did some more sight seeing and shopping. reinhard escorted us back to the front gate of the cruise dock. we spent 9 hours with him in all. it was an amazing day! everyone in our group of 14 agreed it was the highlight of our cruise.

We had a great day in Mazatlan with Humberto Ruiz and went up into the Sierra Madre mountains to the towns of Malpica, and Concordia and several other stops along the way.

This is the second time we used him and we were very happy with his tour. E-mail him and set up a trip humber5277@hotmail.com

Mazatlan Frank is also very good, just google his name and his website will come up.

One thing we did not like was a shore excursion through the ship (Sapphire Princess) it was a cooking class with city walking tour in P.V. Way over priced and not very well done. For the $120 we paid for the two of us, we could have hired a driver for the day and seen much much more.

I know this is an old thread, but can you give me an idea of your tour and how long the day was? How did you decide what you wanted to see?
