Solstice Med. cruise May, 2011

Hi - Any ideas for excursions (ship or private, or going it on your own) for: Barcelona, Cannes, Livorno, Civitavecchia, Naples, Kotor, Venice and Dubrovnik? I really like the itinerary, however isn't the Cannes film festival held in mid-May - won't that be difficult to do anything? Also we would be in Florence on a Monday - some places closed? Thanks for input...

Well first of all - let me say I am glad to see that Celebrity put Solstice back in the Mediterranean !!! We sailed on her last May on her inaugural Med cruise to the Eastern Med. It is a wonderful wonderful ship for Europe !!!!

 

That said, we did not sail your itinerary on Celebrity but have done many of the ports you will be visiting on our Brilliance cruise.

 

Barcelona: we ended our Brilliance cruise here. You will begin and end here. We stayed 1 night post cruise and enjoyed just hitting the highlights and strolling Las Ramblas.

 

Livorno: We visited both Pisa and Florence on a ship "On your own" tour. While I am glad we saw Pisa...... wish we had more time in Florence. Loved it. The "On your own" tour worked great for us.

 

Civi(Rome) we have never ported here for the day.....always pre or post cruise (or both) as it is our favorite favorite city and use every chance we get to do a pre/post cruise stay for a few nights.

 

Naples: we did a private tour our first visit. APTours was great ! Second visit we stayed in Naples and did the museum, pizza and a short drive around tour. Won't do that again...... once is enough. Next time perhaps Capri.

 

Dubrovnik: easy easy DIY. Use the shuttle...... then just walk the old town. Plenty to see and enjoy. Very unique area. Scenic !
