San Juan Airport

Recommended Posts

Is there more than one airport in or near San Juan, and if so, which is the best airport to fly into for a cruise leaving from San Juan? I would be flying from the New Jersey/New York area.

Thanks in advance.

Nope SJU is it. From NYC you have the option of Aguadilla or Ponce on jetBlue, but they are a couple of hours and more from San Juan. There is a little airport right next to the Pan Am Pier called Isla Grande (see my San Juan Google map), but that is for Island hoppers.

I only wish I had a private jet so I could avoid all the hassles with flying now-a-days. That's why I like cruising out of Bayonne. I can drive to there.

Actually, it's my son who's thinking of a cruise out of San Juan, and I think while researching flights he got confused by the various airports he found.

You will be flying into Luis Munoz Marin International Airport and the airport code for San Juan is SJU. It is approximately a 20-30 minute cab ride from airport to the PanAm Pier, depending on traffic.

The cost for a taxi to the port from the airport will be $19 for the taxi plus $1 for each bag. Taxi fares are regulated so you don't need to negotiate on a price.

Don't know why everyone freaks about the San Juan Airport (Luis Marin Munoz).

DW and I have flown in and out of there 3 times on Continental from Newark NJ and return, last in January of this year on Saturdays. and

did not have one problem.

I recommend getting a porter at the at the baggage carousel to get you to a taxi so you can make a quick getaway. Same on the return so that they whisk you thru USDA inspection and right to your check-in counter.

Just remember to have your luggage receipts out when leaving the airport; security will check the numbers against your luggage.

I dont think they have done this for a few years. Our last four cruises out of SJU they didn't do it.
