mishoe1 Posted June 4, 2010 #1 Share Posted June 4, 2010 I am planning/wanting to do both a whale watching expedition and dog sledding while in Alaska in May 2011. I'll be stopping in: Skagway 715a-730p Juneau 745a-430p Ketchican (?)-730p Where would you recommend that I do each adventure? Thank you in advance! Yukon Posted June 4, 2010 #2 Share Posted June 4, 2010 Skagway for dog sledding, Juneau for whale watching. Ketchikan has neither - fishing, totem poles and Misty Fjords flights are the focus there.
mishoe1 Posted June 4, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted June 4, 2010 Hi Yukon - thanks for the reply. Do you think there would be enough time in Skagway to do the dog sledding and do the White Yukon Pass train? Also, can you recommend a dog sledding company in Skagway (am looking for the traditional sledding, not on gravel)? Thank you again!
Yukon Posted June 4, 2010 #4 Share Posted June 4, 2010 There is only 1 heli-sled operator in Skagway, TEMSCO. You'll have lots of time to do it and one of the many train or train/bus options.
SC-Cruiser Posted June 4, 2010 #5 Share Posted June 4, 2010 If you plan on doing whale watching in Juneau, I would suggest contacting one of the small vessel operators to get a much better experience. Last year we used Capt louis and Alaska Whale Watching (www.akwhalewatching.com) and were extremely pleased with his service and knowledge. bosum Posted June 4, 2010 #6 Share Posted June 4, 2010 On many Cunard cruises we've sone very well organising our own excursions, how feasible is this for the Alaskan ports ? We're especially interested in the photography trips, whale watching and heli trip to dog sledding. MTIA
