Love Boat Dream Posted June 13, 2010 #1 Share Posted June 13, 2010 Looking for information on Visby. I did a search and wasn't able to find much. Is this a port that we can explore by ourselves? What are the "don't miss" things for Visby? We are either doing ship's tours (Riga, Gdansk) or private tours (St Petersburg, Hesinki--although that one is by a friend) and we'd love to have one day of exploring on our own if that is the best way to see this port. Thanks!
moyaroo Posted June 13, 2010 #2 Share Posted June 13, 2010 Visby is very charming. from the tender drop off turn left and go past the yacht bsin you will discover marvelous gardens. There are many old churches with roofs and windows out, skeletons really they are majestic. You will love the charm of this place it is magic and the people take great care to make it so. DEL67 Posted June 13, 2010 #3 Share Posted June 13, 2010 We visited Visby while on a cruise a number of years ago and explored it on our own. We walked along the city wall, then walked up to the top of the town which has great views and the wended our way back to to center of the town and visited its museum. On the way we saw charming houses, old churches, a small street market and preparation for some sort of festival. As Mayaroo said, it was a magical day. moyaroo Posted June 14, 2010 #4 Share Posted June 14, 2010 The festival is actually the month of August when the whole becomes a very much better than the idea medieval festival. Do not confuse this with the Renaissance Festival nearest you. Visby in August is pretty much the real deal.
