Maui - Lahaina Beaches

Hello!!

Maui is our 3rd out of 5 stops in 5 days on our cruise in December. DH just approved a BEACH day! Woo Hoo!!!

We tender on the Lahaina side and from what I have been reading, Kaanapali Beach seems to be the best choice for us (we will have our 11 year old with us). What sort of facilities are there or nearby? Restrooms, food, shopping, etc. Should we bring our snorkeling gear too?

What is the easiest way to reach this beach? Bus, taxi, car rental? We have no problem renting a car if there are some sights nearby that we should check out.

Any advice on this would be great! Thanks so very much!

Kaanapali Beach is a great beach for visitors - a little bit of everything (beach, snorkeling, very gentle waves). See if you can catch the Whalers Village shuttle from Lahaina (it's free or close to free) - it'll take you to Whalers Village which is located almost in the middle of Kaanapali Beach. Bring your snorkeling gear - the snorkeling around Black Rock (near the Sheraton) is very good. There are enough hotels fronting the beach that you have access to pretty much anything you need including restrooms, drinks, food, etc.

Thanks Spleen - you are always so very helpful! Do you know if there are any hotels there that offer their services (chairs or cabanas) for the day or 1/2 day? Even if we have to pay, it might be worth it.

Definitely sounds like a great place for a nice relaxing day in the middle of our stops!

Thanks!

Tina,

Ihave been checking out the same thing for our cruise in August. I called and talked to an employee at the beach activities area at the Sheraton. He said that he can rent a cabana or chair to a non-guest since you can just pay cash. Their 2 person cabana's are $30 for the day, and 2 chairs are like $15. He said I can call about 30 days in advance and make a reservation. You may want to call and check for yourself, just to make sure (and let me know if you get the same answer. Here's the Sheraton website:

Here's a virtual tour showing the beach with the cabanas:

Black rock in front of the Sheraton at Whalers is the best in that area. We have seen octopus, sting ray and numerous other wonderful fish in this area. It is a nice beach area to learn windsurfing and snorkel or just lay around with a good book. You have places to shop, eat and swim all in one place.
