Randyxl Posted July 31, 2010 #1 Share Posted July 31, 2010 What advice do people have regarding airport transfer to cruise ship (from Montreal airport) and a wheelchair for getting on to the ship?
RuthC Posted July 31, 2010 #2 Share Posted July 31, 2010 Make sure your parents are registered with the airline as wheelchair passengers. There should be wheelchairs waiting for them when they get off the plane. They will be taken to baggage claim. What happens next can vary. Also, have your TA notify HAL that wheelchairs are needed for (dis)embarkation. That may not be sufficient for boarding, but they will at least be on the list for leaving. Can your parents climb up into a bus? Or a van? (sometimes that's even harder) If they can, then I recommend using HAL transfers to the ship. If they do, then a HAL rep will meet the bus. You can then have that rep get the necessary wheelchairs. If they can't climb, then take a cab. The next challenge is getting those wheelchairs to help then board. Look for a HAL rep, and have them help. Otherwise, you will have to settle your parents someplace comfortable, and see that the chairs are brought to them. Stewards will push the chairs. Disembarkation is easier. If they are registered, then they will be told to report to an assembly lounge at a given time. Then they will be wheeled off the ship when their time comes. A porter will see that they need assistance, gather their bags, and they will be wheeled to whatever transportation you have arranged.
