HazyDavy Posted August 11, 2010 #4 Share Posted August 11, 2010 As long as you're over 21 and bringing it in for personal use, you can bring in as much as you want, you just have to pay duty and IRS taxes (which isn't very much) for anything over 1 liter per person. Duty is generally 3% of value and the IRS excise tax is generally between 21-31cents per 750ml bottle of wine, 67 cents/ champaigne, and $2.14/ hard liquor. time2cruise1 Posted August 11, 2010 #5 Share Posted August 11, 2010 One liter per person, duty free. That would be 5 liters duty free if you stop at St. Thomas.;) As posted the duty/tax is not much if you bring more. I paid $11.70 for the 4 cartons of cigarettes over the the 1 carton limit. Most times if the duty/tax is less then $20 they will just let you pass.
Seekup Posted August 12, 2010 #6 Share Posted August 12, 2010 We usually buy 3 liters of alcohol per person (it's much cheaper than prices in our state store). We always declare it on our customs/immigration form, but have only had to pay the duty once.
