Diane&4girls Posted June 13, 2004 #26 Share Posted June 13, 2004 Rick R, You are VERY right. On the AOS last summer, I was the only one that showed up for 30 minutes. So my daughter and I just sat in the Blue Moon and enjoyed the quiet atmosphere. 30 minutes later someone else showed up and I ended up selling him another cruise and have sold him 4 since then. abridalmaven Posted June 13, 2004 #28 Share Posted June 13, 2004 My problem is that many here take the name cruise critic as an official title and it is up the them to fix what they think ( which is solely their own opinion) is wrong with the cruise line. At Any M&M I have been at, we have told anyone who was there who started that nonsense that the meeting was just for freinds who met online, not a whining fest. And I know that the staff looks down on CCers as whiners. We got very close to a number of the staff on the Legend and found out some amazing things. I am sure Diane is also aware of this perception. Host Karen Posted June 14, 2004 #29 Share Posted June 14, 2004 BigDave, if that couple was from Cleveland and possibly traveling with a church group, my DH and I sat with them at breakfast on AOS last November. Unless there are others.... But to the original topic, I consider the official M&Ms an opportunity graciously provided by RCCL for people on these boards to get together, see the faces behind the screen names, and chat for an hour or so. What seems to happen these days is posters on a roll call schedule an unofficial M&M on boarding day (without free drinks, snacks or raffles) and have a great time getting to know one another. The real M&M is usually less well attended, which is probably frustrating to the staff. Also, the constant complaints by CCers that having it on the first day is inconvenient, but having it on another day is too late or conflicts with other activities probably makes the Cruise Director's staff want to abandon the entire idea. Then people will complain about the M&Ms being eliminated. The three M&Ms I have attended have been hosted by a member of the CD's staff, and punch and snacks were served, with bar service available at an extra charge. The host talked about upcoming activities and RCCL news and held a raffle. Not the highlight of my cruise, but we enjoyed ourselves. The idea that the ship is obligated to provide the OP with what she "deserves" is arrogant and misguided. If she wants to set up a party atmosphere, perhaps she should host a get together in her cabin. Whether or not she wants to pay for the drinks is up to her. ugyvel Posted June 14, 2004 #31 Share Posted June 14, 2004 Our "Kite Pirates" meet & mingle group organized our own meet and greet the afternoon we got on the ship. On our own, we all agreed to convene at the Safari (I think) bar at the back of the ship (beyond the Schooner). We had about 40 people. The poor bartender back there was overwhelmed pretty quickly, so they brought another bartender back there. It worked out real good. The "official" meet & mingle was the next day up in the Viking crown lounge area. A previous poster was right, by the second day, most of us had already hooked up and had got acclimated. The turnout was much less and the function seemed forced and a bit lame. CD was there.
