Which days are better/worse for specialty restaurant dining?

I am cruising for my first time in November, and we plan on eating in the specialty restaurant on Millie at least once but maybe twice over our 11 days.

Are there any days that you would try to avoid because they are the better days in the MDR or formal nights in the MDR? If so, how do you know which days ahead of time?

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Congratulations on your booking!

During our 12 night Millennium cruise in 2007 we ate at the Olympic Restaurant and very much enjoyed it. Here are some factors that we considered when deciding on which night to book it for:

1. we avoided formal nights because the food tends to be better in the main dining room during those evenings. An 11 night cruise will have only 2 formal nights. An excellent rule of thumb is that the first formal night is the second evening of the cruise (welcome aboard) and the last formal night is the next to the last evening of the cruise (farewell). To confirm when the formal nights are, be sure to join your roll call for your sailing as alot of valuable information is gleaned there. You should also check the roll calls and cruise reviews for earlier sailings of your itinerary to get some "intel" on what occurred on their cruise.

2. we chose a sea day to give us something to look foward to. Since we had early seating in the dining room, I had considered booking the specialty restaurant on a port day to give us more time and not have to hurry back to the ship. For our Millennium cruise, we had tours set up that got us back to the ship in plenty of time so we did not do that. On our Summit cruise earlier this month, we did book our Normandie dinners during our two port evenings and made them for later in the evening so we could spend more time in Bermuda.

3. consider booking the reservation towards the 1st half of the cruise to allow you the option to go again (or if you know that you want to go more than once, you can book mulitple reservations from the get go).
