8/28 review & FYI [AFT BALCONY: Lots of shaking when docking]

[ FYI - We were on deck 9 AFT, each morning when docking at a port there was a lot of shaking. It actually worked well for us as it served as our wake up call. But for those that want to sleep in on port days, beware. ]

We sailed on the 8/28 cruise. It's such a beautiful ship!

DINING

-Don't miss the lobster night (for us it was on Tues, 8/31) The lobster was HUGE. Overheard another diner telling the maitre d that it was similar to those served at Cagneys.

-Cagneys was amazing as usual. Always a favorite of ours. Save room for dessert: The apple tart w/ vanilla ice cream was really good.

-Spiegal Tent: Go to the main dining room before or after. The food was not impressive. But the show was good. We had premium seats but i think if you can get standard seating on top it would be better. Also, the seats were PREASSIGNED! So you really dont need to wait in line for too long, as it doesn't matter where you were on line.

-Taste/Manhattan: Breakfast/Lunch menu was the same each day, We dined there mostly for dinner. The prime rib was excellent at dinner (for us it was on Thurs 9/2)

-Buffet: I loved the curry chicken yumm.. Hand scooped Ice cream was a hit for us too.

Interesting note: On the first 5 days of cruising, the beverage machines had ice tea and water only (and of course juice in the morning), but on the last day of the cruise it was replaced with Fruit punch and lemonade.

-Atrium coffee shop: WOW the pound cake was sooo good. I loved all of them but definitely get chocolate, its is sooo goood and rich.

ENTERTAINMENT

Everything is great, we saw Blue Man Group twice. Second City we saw too many times to count. Legends was good (Elvis was best, Tina was good, Madonna was OK)

CASINO

The cigarette smell was bad on the casino deck, NCL needs to fix this. But on the other decks, it was fine.

CABIN

Everything was fine, no issues with the bathroom. The shaking thing was unexpected as we have sailed in AFT balcony's before and never was it like that.

We had a great trip despite the change in itinerary as we had calm seas and sunshine each day. What more can you ask for?

:)

Since the Epic doesn't use azipods it employs a combination of main propellers, rudders and side thrusters to turn the ship. The pure size and mass of the ship makes this quite an effort. As observed, this can cause some significant cavitation not found in some other set-ups.
