On our first family crz my SIL and Daughter had an OV. When all was said and done a balcony would have only been a few hundred more. They vowed to always get a balcony. I never didn't have one. I have slight claustraphobia so it keeps me from walking around in the hallway in my undies. LOL.

I think it depends on your itinerary. Warm weather cruising, most definitely do the balcony. We search through the deck plans and chose cabins with larger balconies, usually aft. We are cruising the Eastern Mediterranean shortly, and I have a balcony booked.

 

If we did Alaska again, I would not bother with the balcony. Too cold, and no one to bring you hot chocolate laced with Amaretto. ;)
