ruderhaus Posted February 20, 2005 #1 Share Posted February 20, 2005 Hello everybody, on the sad occasion of the M/S "Taras Shevchenko's" beaching at the Chittagong, Bangladesh, scrapyard last month, I have just published a Photo Gallery with more than 80 mostly interior pictures of this Ukrainian ship. "Taras Shevchenko" was built as a sister ship to the "Aleksandr Pushkin", better known under her present name: Orient Lines' "Marco Polo". "Taras Shevchenko" underwent a US$ 5 million refurbishment in 2003 and 2004. However, despite countless tries, no charter operator was found for the ship - mainly due to the fact that some cabins did not have private facilities. Ultimately, her owners decided to sell her for scrap in order to regain at least some of the recent expenses. Yet, the pictures, which were kindly provided by Patrick Wetter of the Odessa Shipping Company Ltd. and mostly taken in 2003 and 2004, show that "Taras Shevchenko" was a very charming ship, indeed: http://www.ruderhaus.de/ant-taras-fotos/index.htm As always, English picture descriptions will appear by pointing the mouse cursor at the full-sized pictures. Druke I Posted February 21, 2005 #2 Share Posted February 21, 2005 Too bad - a pretty ship. I think some of us are too spoiled. Cabins without facilities is not "the end of the world". Sailed in a similar cabin (nofacilities) on the old Oriana - and had a great time. Didn't hurt to have to walk a few paces down the hall.
