Ship changes itinerary?

I've been reading lately of ships changing itineraries. How do you deal with your tour operators (private, not ship sponsored) when that happens? I'm looking at the cruisecal for Cozumel when we're suppose to be there, and 9 ships in port that day! I'm thinking that's a great candidate for Carnival deciding to switch days on that stop. Any experiences with that out there? We'll be on the Elation, with stops at Progresso, Cozumel and Belize.

Most tour operators will refund you if your ship misses the port. Verify that with them before you book the tour. The ship will not miss a port just because of a large number of ships there. Just means the port will be crowded.
