Question about the Oosterdam

We just booked a 14 day Hawaii cruise on the Oosterdam for our 25th anniversary next year. We are vigorous dancers and are wondering if there were a couple of good dance floors on this ship, even if they're small, what kinds of bands they have, etc. On a previous HAL cruise, a number of years ago, there were great bands but few dancers, which was actually great for us, they appreciated not to have to play for just tables and chairs!

We appreciate any kind of feedback.

The Oosterdam has an OK-size dance floor in the Ocean Bar. We were on her last month and there was a combo (3 musicians) who played a very good selection of dance music. Those combos are now called "The Neptunes" and usually, they are pretty good. The guys on the Oosterdam last month solicited song requests each night. The floor will handle 5 or 6 couples easily, and we have seldom seen that many taking advantage of the opportunity to dance. Hope you have a great Hawaii cruise and fun dancing! :)

Besides the music in the Ocean Bar every night, there should also be some nights where you'll find dancing in the Queen's Lounge. Those musicians will be called the HALCats, and there will be someone trying her hardest to sing with them.

We were on the Oosterdam last spring for a week in the Mexican Riviera.

We used the dance club near the casino the most. They offered some "theme" nights (dancing through the decades was one...60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s songs were played). One night they had a twist dance contest. Other nights was typical club music, and the DJ (DJ John) was very accommodating to requests. This was the highest energy venue we could find, and we wanted to really get moving and burn off some calories!

Not too many people were dancing when the HALCats played, as I recall. We did not stay too long, as the singer seemed to struggle a bit.

You might also want to catch one of the shows in the piano bar. I don't recall the performers name, but he was very good and did a theme show each night (listed in the program). One night was "Elton John versus Billy Joel", one was "Great Ladies of Song", and one was songs from musicals. The show is only about an hour long (then he does requests for people to sing along), and our entire group enjoyed it. It was standing-room only each night, so get there early if you want a seat.

Have a fabulous vacation! Hawaii is awesome!
