Woman airlifted off Rhapsody of the Seas

Recommended Posts

AN unwell 60-year-old woman has been winched by helicopter from a cruise ship off the Queensland coast.

The Sydney woman was aboard the Rhapsody of the Seas liner, which had departed Sydney and was 40 kilometres off the southern Gold Coast, when she began feeling unwell.

The RACQ CareFlight rescue helicopter was deployed to the cruise ship after receiving a call on Saturday afternoon.

A paramedic winched down onto the ship assessed the woman who was raised from the ship and flown to the Gold Coast airport.

She was taken by ambulance to the John Flynn Hospital in a stable condition.

CareFlight spokesman Brian Russell said the woman was "generally unwell" but further details about her illness were not immediately available.

We cannot remember being on a cruise ship where this has not happened, we have just come off the Pacific Pearl and that happened, it has happened on the Sun Princess. Infact my then 88 year old mother told us at our first breakfast on this particular cruise she saw lights and sky scrappers in the middle of the night. Then the captain came on and said 'if anyone saw sky scrappers and bright lights in the middle of the night it was because I turned the boat around and went back to Sydney due to a medical emergency!'

Have been into Port Vila and had to return 8 hours later for a medical emergency.

Taking a holiday with no travel insurance is plain stupid.

We all need to have it.:)
