Cell phone connection on the ship

We are going on a Mediterranean cruise on Poesia on May 1st. I worry, if I would be able to keep in touch with my father, who is in California, during the cruise. Can someone tell me, how is the cellphone reception on the ship?

I find it varies - sometimes you can get a signal when at sea, sometimes you can't. I usually wait until I'm in port as most Med cruises are port intensive, so you are in port everyday.

If it is vital that you can call home at a certain time \nd can't get a signal to do so, then use the phone in your cabin. The ship to shore service can be expensive though, so make sure you check the charges.
