Hi,you can go by tram till Voula (also there is a nice beach there),and after to take the bus to Kavouri -Vouliagmeni or a taxi.E22 is the bus that goes directly there from city center.Alimos is close to the center and quite nice.

Is it hard to get there or should we take the ferry to another beach

From where?

If from Piraias port, the trip by tram will require taking the green line metro train to the next stop at Faliro ,cross to the other side of the freeway by means of pedestrian bridge then take the tram(45 min) to Voula.

then on further south by cab or whatever.

There is no ferry to varkiza from anywhere.

Is there a particular reason you want to go there?

Are you just looking for a day at the beach and going back to the cruise ship?

Take the tram from the top of Sintagma Square to the end of the line it travels all along the beach area of Athens.

If time is short return to Piraeus by taxi.

Hace a wonderful time in Greece

My vote is for Alimos beach also.

Half the way to Voula from Peiraias.

Get off at the Zephyros stop of the tram.

You will be right in front of the beach( actually there are 3 of them),and the cost to enter is 5-8 euro pp depending on day of the week and it includes the chair rental. It has change facilities, snack bar ,restrooms, etc.

There is a coffee shop and restaurant adjacent to the beach ( on the side towards Peiraias),called Ostria. Its expensive by local standards(5 euro for coffee) but nice with a long promenade by the water in front of it.

Sorry, just to clarify...

To get there, does one need to head back to Syntagima...or can one access the tram near the port?

Thanks:D

If coming in from the cruise pier you do not need to go to Athens to take the tram.

there is a tram route that runs from Neo Faliro(SEF) to Voula(Askleipio Voulas).

Neo Faliro is the first stop of the green line metro from the port to Athens.

You need to make your way from the cruise pier to the metro station, get off at the first stop ,Neo Faliro and walk to the tram station using the pedestrian overpass .

You can not miss it.The tram station is located on the sea side of the road ,next to the Peace and Filias stadium, the large round stadium with the cupped/angled roof.

NOT the stadium with the large red metal exposed beams on the land side which is the Karaiskaki soccer stadium.

Take the tram to Voula. The other route from there goes to Syndagma(downtown).

The ticket from the metro can be used on the tram.

The whole trip should take about an hour ,including time waiting at the stations.
