Hiking with Curacao-Actief

Hello all,

We're thinking of booking a hiking tour with this company - they seem to be the only one to offer such a tour. Trip Advisor only has 3 ratings and 2 are not that great. But I see lots of good reviews of the company here. Has anyone done a private hiking tour with them? We don't arrive on our ship until afternoon, so it would be a later hike and we're considering the Watamula & Shete Boka-West hike. Has anyone done this? Any thoughts are greatly appreciated! This will be our first time to Curacao, and we are not very experienced cruisers. But we sure love to hike!

I would contact them to see if they still do the hike you want. Last year we wanted to do the Mt Christofel hike ( climb ) with them. But they had stop doing it, although it was still available on their website. They were only offering the eco-jeep tour.

We rented a car drove to Christofel park, and did the climb on our own. Great hike, wonderful views.

Thanks Nicole and Tom! I have contacted them and have the hike booked. I was interested in Christofel Park but our ship doesn't arrive until 1 pm. I read that this would be a bad hike to do in the heat of the day. Do you remember what time of day you did it? That is really the hike we wanted to do and we have thought about trying it on our own. Do you remember how far of a drive it was from the ship? Thanks again!

We did the hike mid-morning in early Dec. It was close to noon when we arrived at the top. We were glad for the breeze on the way back down as it was very humid. Temperature was in the low 80's the day we climbed.

If you are going to Curaçao during the winter month you can most likely do the climb in the afternoon. Just make sure you bring lots of water and snacks.

Enjoy your cruise!

I forgot. If you decide to do the climb and have hiking poles, bring them. I was glad I had mine last year.

Wow NML your pictures bring back memories. We did this "hike" about 5 years ago. This first part of it I would definately call a "hike" but as your pictures depict, when you close to the top is is definately more of a "climb". I did not know before hand what getting to the top would entail, but I would definately do it again. It is one of the best memories my family has, a picture of the 7 of us (me, my husband, my three age early 20 children, and two significant others) at the top of Mt. Christofel.

We hired a private driver to pick us up at the cruise terminal take us to a guide at the park, who escorted us up the "mountain", then the private driver took us to a beach for a quick swim and some lunch. Was probably a little much to do in one day off of a cruise ship. We did not have much time at the beach. But as as I said before, it was a day my family never stops talking about. Oh by the way, my husband and I are not avid hikers and we were sore for days, but again well worth it

Travelqueen, I'm glad I could bring back good memories!!! We really enjoyed that hike, and my husband hopes to be able to do it again. We are going to Curaçao again in Dec but have decided to tour Willemstad this time.
