aussie57 Posted September 6, 2011 #1 Share Posted September 6, 2011 Does anyone know if local tour companies offer independent day / half-day sightseeing tours of the are which you can purchase on arrival at shore? Do you have any details of these tours - cost, duration, itinerary? Thanks
MargoK Posted September 6, 2011 #2 Share Posted September 6, 2011 Try this website to start with. You will be tendered and be able to into Paihia, to Waitangi and over on the ferry to Russell. http://www.northlandnz.com/destinations/east_coast/bay_of_islands/ http://paihianz.co.nz/visit/activities http://www.russellnz.co.nz/ There is an information booth on the wharf at Paihia if you want to wait until you arrive. Waitangi is worth visiting as this is a very historical and important part of NZ history. Hope this helps.
newgirl2201 Posted September 6, 2011 #3 Share Posted September 6, 2011 Ive just booked an independant excursion with a taxi driver. He is taking us to the places we want to see. I notices fullers had a few tours you could take but these I imagine would be large buses with lots of people.
glutenhab Posted September 6, 2011 #4 Share Posted September 6, 2011 Is the price for doing this comparable to regular tour prices?

Carmic Posted September 7, 2011 #6 Share Posted September 7, 2011 How did you get in touch with this taxi driver? Is there a web site? Sounds like a great idea. Carol
Budget Queen Posted September 7, 2011 #7 Share Posted September 7, 2011 I've rented a car. Bay of Islands is ideal for self drive touring. :) Taking the shuttle from the tender dock- however will take you to the visitor center, if you want to wait until you get there.
