Specialty Dining and the Beverage package

If you buy the top of the line package for your cruise and go to one of the specialty dininning venues that offers wine pairing, is this included? Any input would be great

No direct experience. However, we have had the wine paring wines by the glass in the speciality restaurants when ordering from the main menu despite them not being offered by the glass on the wine menu. Most of these, however, were more than $12 per glass so you would have to pay the extra.

 

The food on the wine paring menu is from the main menu but some of the portions are smaller because of the number of courses. So, I guess, it should be possible to have the same experience by paying the usual $40 for the food and the surcharges for the wine. However, as the rule change allowing you to pay just the surcharge for glasses over $12 has only recently been introduced, I am not sure if any posters will have tried this yet.

 

Prior to this rule change, we would not buy the alcohol packages because it would not have included the wine we enjoy in the speciality restaurants. We have bought them for our next cruise and are hoping that, in addition to the wines by the glass on the menu, we will again be allowed to order those from the wine paring menu. I guess we will find out in a few months time.

We have had the premium packages for our last two cruises. In the specialty restaurants, the sommelier always consulted with us and brought us wines paired with our course selections. Not sure if they were the "official" pairings, but the choices were wonderful and a chance for us to try several wines we were unfamiliar with. But as mentioned above, under the new policy you can now just pay the difference if the price is more than $12.
