Rare CTCruisers Posted September 19, 2005 #3 Share Posted September 19, 2005 Clear Channel Cruises have a Rock n Roll Oldies Cruise on the Carnival Valor October 23, 2005. The Spinners, The Grassroots, Jay and the Americans and The Rascals will have concerts on this cruise. This sounds like a blast. My hubby and I are booked along with my father in-law with his lady friend. Anyone else going? MHabersack I wish we could go. We have recently have seen all of the bands except for the Spinners. The vocals are terrific from the 3 bands we have seen. I am always impressed with Jay Black's ability to still hit those notes on "Cara Mia". One funny thing though, regarding the Grassroots. Currently the band is comprised of Rob Grill (the original singer) along with a guitar player, keyboardist, and a drummer. Rob Grill's voice is dead on, but he is standing there with a bass guitar that he is not playing. He moves his fingers occasionally, but the bass lines are coming from somewhere else. You can see him on the 60's rock show they have on PBS every once in a while and with the close-ups you can tell he is faking the bass playing. The odd thing is when they are introduced, he plugs into a bass amp and plays a few notes like he is warming up, but when the music starts, the bass lines are coming from the PA system and not from his bass. Just a pet peeve of mine, since I play bass and the bass lines from some of the Grassroots songs are classic bass lines. Other than that you will see a great show. I know we would go if we could. JustFun1 Posted November 24, 2005 #4 Share Posted November 24, 2005 I took the Oldies cruise by Clear Channel on the Carnival ship. My first cruise. BORING. The portion of the cruise sponsored by Clear Channel was great. The bands were great and Jay Black is incredible. Daytime on the Carnival ship was incredibly boring. I would not do this again because all Carnival cares about is bring your money. They offer very little in terms of entertainment in the hours of 7am to 7pm. 3000+ people for tiny sweimming pools, and so crowded getting a lounge chair is a victory! Guess they hope you'll just spend in their shops, drink their booze, gamble in the casino and leave your BUCKS. Food was dulll and buffet lines long. Yuck. Next time... all inclusive island beach vacation is where I'll drop my money. But , the grassroots, the rascals, spinners, they were all just fabulous. If you love this kind of music, check out Big Spring Jam on the internet. Lots of oldies... for about $40 for an entire weekend!

octopus Posted August 17, 2006 #8 Share Posted August 17, 2006 Hi, I noticed that there is a major difference between the price on the Liberty travel Rock and Rol cruise on October 28 2006 and the Carnival quote for the same date. Is the entertainment exclusive to passengers that book through Liberty or just some sort of private party or "meet and greet". Thanks Murray

lil buddy Posted October 9, 2006 #10 Share Posted October 9, 2006 Murray, I tried to book an oldies cruise with Liberty last year and they only are able to sell a limited # of cabins and the majority of the entertainment is Private and not open to the rest of the cruise passengers. This has an up and down side IMO....I don't think it is fair to take public areas of the ship and close them to the passengers that didn't book the " oldies package "....having said this, I guess if I were one of the ones who had booked oldies, I would enjoy the exclusivity. Let us know what you find out. Regards, Barbara
AdeleMc Posted October 11, 2006 #11 Share Posted October 11, 2006 Hi Guys, I work for Clear Channel Cruises. (OK, hold the tomato throwing and boo's for the TA's :) :) :) )We do take over the entire showroom for the private concerts and cocktail parties. We do this however during non-peak times, or when there is nothing else going on that day on the ship. Usually our shows are held during early dinner time, and we take over one of the dining rooms for late seating dinner. This is no different than another large group such as MCI, Microsoft, YMCA, American Cancer Society, etc having a private function on board. Large groups do it all the time. Yes, the shows are exclusive to Clear Channel Passengers, this is because we have to PAY for the entertainment. That said, we are a fun bunch of people! Both Liberty and Clear Channel Cruises are selling into the same cabin allotment, and we have less than 10 left to sell.
deputydog1157 Posted November 5, 2006 #12 Share Posted November 5, 2006 I just got home from the Hitmakers '06 cruise that AdeleMC was working on. If it wasn't for all of the hard work that AdeleMC, Rose and Scott do for us, the cruise would be a bust. To answer the question of the difference in pricing, yes you pay more but in return you get to see these great legends and Rock and Roll Hall of Famers. Shutting down a public area is no different than a group renting out your local volunteer fire department hall for a party. Carnival cruise lines and the artists charge their fees to Clear Channel Cruises and the costs get passed on to us. I look forward to these cruises each and every year! Where else can you go to an art auction and be seated next to Paul Revere or go shoot craps with Darrin Medley, or go a golf seminar with Abdul "Duke" Fakir? Adele, you guys rock and I appreciate your hard work!!!!
