Anything cheap or almost free to do in Belize for 2 adults 2 teens?

We will be in Belize the week of Thanksgiving on the Liberty. We are spending so much money in other ports that we would really like to spend as little as possible at this port. I have heard that the city is not safe enough to just wander around. Any ideas on how we can see Belize on a small budget?

Take the tender into the port. Go to the Wet lizard and enjoy some conch fritters and a Belkin. Now brave the mob just outside the Tourist Village (TV) gate (they're only vendors hawking their tours, not "Occupy Belize' protestors or gangs of thugs) and cross the street hang left. There's a small crafts market there with native crafts at cheaper prices than inside the TV. When done face the TV complex, turn left and walk down and around the promenade to the lighthouse then come back or circle around the seaside to the Memorial park and take a side street back to the TV. or continue up to Hudston street and then cross over to Front Street and look at the Swing Bridge. Then head back to the TV which is just down Front Street. This whole area is primarily residential with several embassies around. So pretty safe and little traffic. And no vendors once past the direct entrance to the TV.
