We will be down in Southampton on Thursday 10th November staying on West Quay Rd before we go on the Independence of the Seas on the 11th, we would like to wave off Queen Mary 2 on the 10th, Can anyone tell us how you get in the wave off Lounge in the Terminal, we believe it departs at 5pm can anyone confirm this.

Asfar as I know you can walk into the terminal, you wont get the best view of her from there though, take the ferry from the pier to Hythe ferry and watch her leave from the Hythe pier

definitely. You can make it a circle trip, by taking the bus Hythe-Lymington, and then the train back to southampton. Lymington's High Street is very cute.

QM2 is scheduled for Ocean Terminal, berth 46.

The wave-off lounge is the upper level of the terminal, entry is the same main door as the passenger entry, & to the best of my knowledge is still unrestricted access. The view from there is quite limited, because the windows are just on the ship-side & its so close to the ship. And nowhere else to stand on the dockside near the terminal (health & safety brigade out in force)

There's (theoretically) no parking inside the docks, so you can't just leave your car unattended, but the terminal is only a three minute walk from the dock gate (gate 4).

Other than the terminal, there's not a good viewpoint in Southampton - nearest is Town Quay but the view is significantly obstructed by the terminal.

Down by QE2 Terminal (berth 39/40) (also access via dock gate 4) there's a good view from your car, but you may get chased around a little by those H & S beagles. It's a long way from the gate, you need to drive in (if challenged, you're picking up friends at Ocean Terminal).

Other more distant viewpoints on the Itchen Bridge & along Weston Shore.

Rob & Scottbee have the right idea.

Take the little Hythe ferry from Town Quay across Southampton Water to the little village of Hythe, the ferry pier is an excellent viewpoint.

Scottbee's idea of extending your little foray to Lymington would make it an afternoon's-worth, & you'd have to go the other way round because of the time of day

Town Quay is between Ocean Terminal & Indy's terminal, and a short walk from either.

Good point about the timing, but yes, take the train down to Lymington in the AM, wander the town for a couple of hours and grab the Hythe bus back
