Med fly Cruise and luggage labels

Hi

this has probably been asked/discussed before, but

On our etickets and general notifications, it clearly states check in 3 hours before (this is for a Med cruise). When we travel long haul, we know we can check in 2 hours before etc.

also

Does one put the labels for the cases on before the flight or once collected from the carousel. The way baggage handlers handle luggage, thought maybe they could be pulled/ripped off!!!

What is the consensus?
