funinthesun1964 Posted December 21, 2011 #1 Share Posted December 21, 2011 Can anyone recommend a good restaurant in the Condado area? I'm looking for a fun atmosphere, not overly expensive or fancy, of course good food and drinks, variety, etc... We will be staying near the Doubletree, so something in walking distance would be great...and we are able to walk a good distance. Thanks!

martyap Posted December 23, 2011 #3 Share Posted December 23, 2011 The Doubletree is very close to the supermarket but a bit of a walk to the large number of restaurants on Ashford that we went to. Orozco's is walkable. It is close to the Marriott. Ropa Vieja is too far to walk but it is excellent. It is a few blocks past La Concha Hotel. Using the Marriott as a point of reference the Doubletree is about a 15-20 minute walk and maybe another 15 minutes further to La Concha. There is also a public bus on Ashford Ave that will take you into Old San Juan and taxis are of course plentiful.
Floppy McTurnriver Posted December 23, 2011 #4 Share Posted December 23, 2011 Anyone??? Just came back from 3 day pre-cruise in SJ and we stayed at the Doubletree Can't speak about restaurants that are fun, but if good eats is what is important, i highly recommend 1. Bebos (just behind Doubletree, 1 small block away) - just a small local restaurant, no tourists here. Good simple local eats at fair prices. Try churassco steak or fried pork. Also the fruit frappes. 2. Under the Tree (right beside the Doubletree, ground level of tall condo). Found this based on TripAdvisor review of Doubletree guest. Have to agree with him - best burgers I've ever eaten. Everything is good on the menu, more contemporary setting and cuisine. 3. Latin Roots (in Old San Juan, behind the Sheraton). Must visit for roast pork. Period.
