Seraphine Posted January 3, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 3, 2012 We're looking at the 11 day cruise out of either Savona or Rome (Civitivecchia) leaving in October. Flights are similar in price. Which is easier to get a budget hotel room, and deal with transport? We need to move fast before the flight prices go up again - any advice? Thank you
Capricruiser Posted January 3, 2012 #2 Share Posted January 3, 2012 Well, embarkation is generally easier and faster at Civitavecchia because only a few passengers embark there. Can't help on the hotel question because I don't use the budget ones. Savona would be the Genoa airport which means a €100 taxi ride. Civitavecchia means Rome Fiumicino, a vastly more important airport than Genoa but a more expensive transfer, probably around €150. At Savona I use the NH Savona Darsena hotel which is a two minute walk to the cruise terminal. There's lots of hotel advice in the CC ports of call forum for Italy. Seraphine Posted January 3, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted January 3, 2012 Thanks for your help! We ended up getting to use some hotel points to stay in Savona, so that's the one we picked. We're all booked up, so I'm off to see if there's a roll call :) This will be our first Costa cruise, and our first European cruise (we did a TA, but it felt like were headed out of Europe, not going to it!) We're looking forward to it!
jonad Posted January 4, 2012 #4 Share Posted January 4, 2012 Seraphine If you are flying into Genova there's no need to spend 100euro on a taxi. We caught the train and paid 8.20euro for two of us and it took about 45 minutes. At the 'tabacchi' stand at Savona train station we purchased our bus tickets for 1.30euro each for the bus "Palocrociere" which took us straight to the port. We also stayed at the nh Savona Darsena, in between cruises, and though its not the cheapest, certainly the most convenient to the port....can't get much closer.
