Liberty of the Seas- just back, a few tidbits of information

Recommended Posts

Just returned from a fabulous 5 night Western Caribbean sailing on the Liberty of the Seas.

I was concerned about embarkation and disembarkation. Embarkation was a breeze. We arrived about 11:30 and were on the ship before noon. There was a sign that cabins would be ready by 1:00, and they were accessible to us at that time.

Disembarkation was also smooth (only 2 ships in Port Everglades that day). Some of our party took their own luggage off the ship with no problem about 8:30 am. The rest of us collected our luggage after getting off the ship at 9:00. We waited about 15 minutes for our bags to come out, but we had walked off the ship instead of waitiing in the designated lounge for our group to be called.

We had rented a car from Budget at the 17th Street Causeway location. Waited quite a while for the shuttle, but we were able to get on the shuttle (we were 6 people with all of our bags.) We were the only ones at the Budget counter. Could be a problem getting on the shuttle if lots of ships are in port. If this were the case I would probably take a cab to the Budget rental office, which is a block or two from the entrance of Port Everglades.

As we had no young kids with us, we were easily able to get lounge chairs at the Adult pool area (Solariium) which was very quiet. If you left your chair, they were strict about timing you. If you were not back in 30 minutes, they moved your towels and personal belongings from the chair.

Shows were far superior to the ny of the ones I have seen on other cruise lines. Saturday Night Fever is a Broadway quality show. Very impressive for a cruise line!

Did not eat at the specialty restaurants. Food was fine, but not fabulous. Wait staff in dining room was excellent. Memorized all 12 of our names on the first night.

In Cozumel we took a taxi to Paradise Beach. ($13 taxi for 1-4 people, van was $28 for up to 8 people). Lots of taxis available in both directions. $2 for a lounge chair with umbrellas, and we spent about 410 per person on food. Gorgeous beach and pool. Weather was hot and sunny.

In Belize, our 6 teenage and adult children did the "zip line and rappelling" excursion. It was fun, but a couple of hours drive in each direction. The adults stayed on the ship and enjoyed the pool with very few people around.

The library is a great location to congregate with a group of people.

We bought a wine package, and were able to request bottles from the package which we took out of the dining room to enjoy elsewhere on the ship. We used some of the wine bottles for pre-dinner drinks. The bars were happy to open the wine and supply glasses for us.

All in all, a great trip.

Yes both islands are an hour behind ship time, but STAY ON SHIP TIME when you get off. This can't be stressed enough. Just got off Liberty myself.. great cruise, a few minor complaints but with a ship that big nothing is going to be perfect!!!
