rocking sensation after the cruise

When we first started cruising I had that rocking feeling after the cruises but once we started cruising more often 2-3 times per year (and longer cruises) it did not happen anymore- so I guess that your brain just has to adjust and learn the new activity- maybe when you get your sea legs- you get your land legs! I still tend to get sea sick if it's rough but not as much as in the past.......

Very normal. I also feel like I am still on a treadmill after I get off for a few minutes!

I do too! I thought I was the only one.:o My rocking seems to last two days for every night I sleep on a boat or ship. Also, if I ride a roller coaster, I can "relive" the ride when I try to go to sleep that night.

I have been on five cruises and have experienced this only twice. On our first cruise, we sailed out of New Orleans. The twists and turns of the Mississippi River were really hard to take, and we felt the rocking after that cruise. We had three subsequent 7 day cruises with good seas and had no problems after the fact. Walked off the ship and felt completely normal. On our last cruise, however, we had really rough seas (20-30 foot swells). We felt the rocking and rolling sensation for at least a week after that cruise. My husband was talking about that at his work. A man he was talking to said that, when he had been in the Navy, he was on an aircraft carrier for three entire months at sea. He never got sea sick until he finally got on land and got into the shower. He then got completely sea sick and puked all over the shower.

Just for the record - I am male, in my early 30s, and I've had it for 4 days so far after a fairly mild Alaskan Inside Passage cruise. I am trying meclizine today. Thanks to 2cruize4ever for pointing me to this, very good info.

I also never got sea sick on the ship. Actually, I couldn't feel the ship moving at all when my wife could. So I guess now I am paying for my brain being too adaptive (funny it's only very adaptive one way, but not the other way...)

I was diagnosed by a specialist with Benign Positional Vertigo in 2000. I had the swaying feeling for several weeks after returning from a 4 day cruise. I was told that the cruise did not have anything to do with this condition??. I tried all the medications with no success. The excercises that were posted earlier is what the specialist said to do. I have had this off and on for over 5 years! I was totally suprised when I saw this thread and the amount of people that are affected. I am going on a 10 day cruise in October and hope that this does NOT happen again.

Wow.....How interesting to find people other than myself that have this issue.... I thought I was the only one with this "unusual" problem.....I always say my cruise may be a 7 day voyage but it really goes for 14 days....lol... My swaying usually lasts for 5-7 days after a cruise.... I never (knock on wood) get seasick but it's the after affect.... I started taking Antivert (used for vertigo) after my cruise in Jan. about 2 days before the end of the cruise....It wasn't completely gone but helped alot.... Don't know if it will work for everyone but ask your physician...

I will be going on my 6th cruise in June. On each of the other cruises, I have felt fine while on the ship, but once I get home, I "still feel like I am on the ship", and have an annoying rocking sensation for several weeks afterwards. Does anyone know how to prevent this from happening?
Book back-to-back-to-back cruises!!

;)

Yes. My husband and I just returned from a 7 day Alaskan cruise. No trouble with sea sickness. I have always prided myself on never suffering motion sickness. Now I have the motion sensation and just a little nausea. I'll try some dramamine or meclizine. I haven't found any other suggestions. I hope it resolves quickly.
