Nextel on St. Thomas?

Hi

We will be in both St. thomas and San Juan on our upcoming cruise and wonder if anyone has been able to get Nextel there? Would like to ditch the phone but ned to check on kids and work:(. Also do you know if you can use regular phone Since they are U.S. or do you need international? thanks

I was in San Juan Oct, 2003 for work. Nextel and AT&T did not work there.

I guess it depends on the carrier. I have Cingular and I had service in both San Juan and St. Thomas and the fee counted in my regular service which was nice.

Sprint and Cingular are providers here in the VI so they work and if you have a nationwide plan then the calls are not considered long distance.

 

Some of the other cell providers (like Verizon) work off the local provider networks and sometimes have roaming charges and sometimes not.

 

You can get some phone cards and use a payphone.
