cjm66 Posted March 4, 2012 #2 Share Posted March 4, 2012 When is the best time to cruise to New Zealand The season runs from October to March / early April and common advice is February after school holidays and what can be unsettled weather in January. We have tried late November - early December twice (before school holidays) and had fair weather. But it is a maritime climate on the coast with an changeable weather pattern - especially so this year on both sides of the Tasman! But it is a maritime climate on the coast with an changeable weather pattern - especially so this year on both sides of the Tasman! That's so true!, especially this year! January / February is normally the best time of year to come to NZ as we get the most settled weather then, but this year has been a shocker! As with cjm66, We have been also now been around NZ twice both in December at Christmas / New year time, the first time we went around NZ, we had great weather (and had we not swapped ships!, the ship was overbooked.....) we would have got great weather again..., but it was not meant to be!..... and we had rain in Auckland and Tauranga, It was only in till we got to Wellington that the weather started to improve a bit..... Sandielle Posted March 4, 2012 #4 Share Posted March 4, 2012 We got back from NZ last Thursday, 1 March and also made the trip for the precious two Februaries. The weather has been pretty good - a bit overcast and cold down south in the South Island, but not much actual rain. The only time we missed any ports was 2010. We got half-way into Milford Sound when the increasing winds forced the pilot to bring us out again and we missed the other sounds. We also missed Napier, but that was because the harbourmaster closed the port due to the tsunami at that time. Otherwise it was a beautiful day. :)
