Can I use a DVD player on the new flat screen TV's?

I will be taking a transatlantic on the Adventure, and my cabin will have a new flat screen TV. Has anyone had experience hooking up a DVD player or PC to the TV?

I have heard that they block out the HDMI inputs so that you cannot connect personal electronics to the cabin TV's.

Some have reported success in re-enabling the ports by using a universal remote brought from home.
