Recommended Posts

We are due to fly out to Barbados on Sunday for back to back cruises around the Caribbean - YIPPEE!!!!! :D

Can anyone particularly recommend any specific Thomson trips?

Stevespain - your new review was very helpful and mentioned Thomson trips, which ones did you do?

Thanks to everyone in advance for their help:)

There are better value trips available locally on most islands with a little bit of internet research before you go. Highly recommended are Cosol tours on St Lucia and Royston Tours on St Kitts. With both these you will pay less and get far more both in terms of time and food and drink supplied.

The Thomson Island tours in St Vincent and Tobago were excellent, although I don't think you are doing these islands, but the island tour in St Maarten was rubbish:rolleyes: It would have been better if we had gone to the beach with the planes flying over:rolleyes: We did a trip in a taxi in Antigua - $25 each - very good:) Most places you can just get off and get a taxi or share a minibus with others.

Along with a lot of others we have booked with Bernards Tours on St Maarten, look for the reviews on Trip Advisor. He has his own website and you can book through that, a lot cheaper and more content than Thomson, $40 or around £25 each. You pay on the day.:):)

As regards river rafting or other similar trips, please make sure that you have informed your travel insurer as you won't be covered otherwise.:)

Don't go on a tour on Margarita Island. Nothing to see of interest at all. You be better off staying on the beach. In Tortola we got together with some other passengers and six of us went round the island in a mini van. We paid $25 each and it was well worth it.

Don't go on them buses near the terminal in Aruba, not very interesting at all.

Royston in St Kitts and Bernards in St Maarten both very enjoyable and good value.

We did the river tubing in Dominica with the ship, that was quite nice as well.

Quick ammendment to my post, it was river tubing :owe did also and was most enjoyable.

We were on the Dream in January. We did two ships tours - the Starwind snorkle in Grenada which was a great trip. We had 45 minutes snorkelling and then a trip to Great Anse beach where we brought rum punch when we were in the water.

In Margarita Island we went to La laguna Retsinga ( i think it was called that!) you could only do ships tours there, local taxis looked clapped out and were expensive according to reports. We loved that trip - if you want to go to the small local beach go early as it filled up very quickly.

On the other islands we got taxis locally, usually for $20 each. In St.Kitts look for Beulah a lady from Leeds who runs tours there in winter.

We fly out at 10.20 on Sunday morning and can't wait. Just a really useful tip take a small extension lead we found it really useful in our cabin last year. As for trips we are just going to take our chances I think however we would like to snorkel somewhere I think. Hope you enjoy it the weather is about 30C all week from my research.

Thanks to everyone for all the info - really appreciate it altho still not sure exactly what to do where!

Gemini77 - you must be flying from somewhere different to us - our flight from Newcastle doesn't leave until 11.25 so you'll probably already be on the ship before we land - jealous!

Hi we have just returned from Thomson Dream and as it was our first time and the first destination was ST Kitts.so being a little unsure we booked through Thomson (we also booked at the same time a trip to Harrisons Caves in Barbados (http://www.harrisonscave.com) for the begining of our second week,it was somewhere we wanted to go)when we were waiting for the bus for THE BEST OF ST KITTS tour organised by Thomson one of the reps realised they had more passengers than vehicles so they just booked one of the taxis to accomodate the overflow,so we thought we could have done that ourselves,so thereafter we did, but on the night before docking at Margarita Island Venezuela we noticed Thomson leaflet for Margarita Island stated that the English language was not widely spoken so we went to book a trip with Thomson, as it was late at night the one we wanted was full and there were only two organised trips available, the one we chose was Rhumba on the Chiva..which is a very colourful open air bus and they play loud music and provide drinks , they then take you to a beach where the beach chairs and shade are provided in with the cost,,once there, they set up a table for nibbles and rum/drinks, and on the way back everybody was supplied with more drink and the music belting out and all were up and dancing as we made our way back to the dock,it was fun and all the locals wave to you as you pass by ..
