Firstimecruiser2012 Posted April 9, 2012 #26 Share Posted April 9, 2012 WIth ref: to the OP's original question. We live in the UK and The Lainston House Hotel in nearby Winchester is a luxury , pampering hotel. May well fit the bill! Beautiful views, stunning scenery. Pjran Posted April 10, 2012 #27 Share Posted April 10, 2012 Another little hotel gem is The Montagu Arms, only 20 minutes transfer time to the port. I'm sure you can negotiate a good deal if you ring them. It's one of my favourite places for an afternoon tea, last visit was only 2 weeks ago. Beaulieu village is just beautiful. Bucklers Hard is an interesting place to walk via the river tow path from the hotel, not a car in sight. The motor museum is close by and you're in the New Forest. adoctor Posted April 11, 2012 #28 Share Posted April 11, 2012 If Southampton was not the port of embarcation you wouldnt to choose to stay there. Its a dull city with a lack of good hotels and restaurants. You really have two sensible options but both require some travel and probably car rental or car transfer. 1 Winchester. The old capital with a stunning cathedral and good restaurants. The best hotel is out of town Lainston House. 2 The New Forest. Two great hotels:Chewton Glen and the younger up start: Limewood. It has been open about years great food and one of the best Spa's on this planet.
