DCguys Posted April 5, 2012 #1 Share Posted April 5, 2012 I have recently become a cruise enrichment speaker/lecturer. Enrichment speakers get free fare plus one guest. We still pay grats and transport to and from port and usually a daily fee to our agents for the booking help (each agency is different). We even get discounts on alcohol. I've been offered my first real gig, on X Solstice for a 13 day western med cruise in June. While many ships put speakers in regular passenger cabins, often an outside stateroom, X's S-class ships have dedicated porthole cabins nearer the crew cabins (through a little door in the hall you probably don't ever notice) for speakers. I've never experienced this, I paid for my own balcony cabin on my only other cruise, but a pal who speaks extensively on ships hated her lecture trip on Eclipse because she felt like a 2nd rate citizen. She tends to be a bit prissy though! Are there any speakers out there who can share their X experiences with me as I try to determine if I should take this offer or pass? Has anyone else seen these cabins? Are they near noisy areas?
jackdiamond Posted April 5, 2012 #2 Share Posted April 5, 2012 We have some neighbors who used to teach bridge on some Celebrity ships, before the bridge classes were discontinued, and they were only offered an inside cabin. I also believe that they had to pay a certain amount per day.
