EPIC Smartphone App

If I'm late to the party with this thread, I apologize, but I didn't see anything about this after skimming through all the threads. but I just read this article http://www.fodors.com/news/story_5495.html about a new smartphone app that has been released on the EPIC.

 

Apparently, you can access Concierge functions, but more importantly, it looks as if for a nominal fee (~$8), you can call/text people onboard through the app and not be subject to insane at-sea roaming charges. Has anybody tried this? If so, does it work as advertised? My soon to be wife and I will be on the Epic in August with a group of people and we were all considering buying 2-way radios, but if this works, I'll save the money and spend it on over-priced whiskey onboard.

Sounds like they're still having problems with the app but they're working on ironing them out.
